Just thought id post since i havent been on in awhile. I am an IBS-C and just recently started having bad attacks after a nine year lull. I believe stress was the major factor. BUt thanks to this site I believe that eating this way greatly reduced my pain and episodes. I lost 5 pounds during this time but just recently put 3 back on. I am currently incorporating insoluble fiber back into my diet after eating none. I have already been eating cooked vegies, tomato sauce, and fruit smoothies which accounts for some IF but I dont know how much to get and the safest way to get it. I like to eat fresh fruit and vegies but am afraid to try. I would consider myself stable, since I only use Bentyl as a preventative. Any suggestions? Or should I just stay away from fresh fruit, and vegies like salad?(I have eaten a salad after a good SF meal and beleive i had no problems)

You should definitely have those fruits and veggies. Work them in to your diet a little at a time (and only one at a time so that if something does cause problems you'll know what food did it) along with a good SF base. There have been discussions about safe fruits and vegetables on here before. If you do a search for safe veggies or safe fruits they should come up.

Yes, I agree. You definitely need the fruits and veggies. Try smoothies (I do banana/blueberry/strawberry almost daily) with a little milk replacement or water) or try applesauce or canned peaches not in heavy syrup. Veggies are a bit tougher...make sure they are REALLY soft so they'll be easier to digest and just eat a small amount with SF. I know it's scary but just take it slowly and try one thing at a time. You will be healthier for it and your digestive system will adjust if you do it carefully.
