I wondered if anyone else has a routine they carry out in order to go to the bathroom, I know that mine is OCD related but wondered if anyone else does it?
I wake up, put my make up on, get dressed then make my oatmeal. I sit in the same chair every morning eating my breakfast and do sudoku or crossword puzzles whilst eating. When i've finished I do the washing up, then dry up and put away, I then try and go to the toilet. The thing is I know its an OCD thing because if anyone told me I couldn't have that seat, or do my puzzles or the washing up I'd panic that I wouldn't be able to go to the toilet or that I'd have D. I realise it makes no sense whatsoever and is totally irrational but I still do it. Just wondered if anyone else had their own bizarre IBS/OCD related issues?

It's not bizarre. I obsess too and I'm don't have an OCD diagnosis. When it comes to IBS, I think you need to do whatever is going to make YOU feel most comfortable and at ease b/c stress just exacerbates the symptoms. Perhaps one day when you don't need to go out, you could try to alter your routine and see what happens bm-wise. Then at least if you go to a hotel or something, you won't feel so out of character. I don't have a real particular routine, except that I usually need to wait a bit after eating before having my bm and I freak out if I haven't had it before I leave the house. I think there are others that wake up super early to make sure their "deed" is done before going to work. I have a friend like that. Poor thing....she gets up sooo early (5ish) just to leave the house by 7:30. It sound like your routine is working for you. Don't be so hard on yourself for feeling like it is a security blanket. At least it's something you can control.

I agree with Line415. I have a morning routine that sounds alot like yours b/c if I don't go in the morning before I go to work, I won't go at all that day. I am IBS-C and feel my BM's are directly related to my stress throughout the day. It takes me a good night's sleep to relax, so morning is the only time I go.

Im the same if I dont go in the morning then I wont go all day, the funny thing is I'm more of an A prone to D but urge wise more C! To be honest I've got to the stage where I just think sod it, it works for me! Only thing is when my boyfriend stays over always feel a little awkward, he knows I've got my little routine and he doesn't care about my little OCD's, just feel a little embarassed about my own stupidity lol

I do! Usually, I'm the only one left in the house in the morning, and I love it, because I can do my thing in peace. I always get up, eat breakfast (I like to get things working ASAP), get a shower/dressed, then go before I leave. And, I like to listen to the radio too. When someone is home or something throws off my morning routine, sometimes I can't go before I leave, and I hate that. There's nothing worse than trying to work in a BM at work, IMO anyway! Or if I can't work it in, and I don't end up going, I can be thrown off for a day or two.

I hate when my morning routine gets messed up!
