I have been diagnosed with IBS but I have so many symptoms of a systemic yeast infection and a carb free, sugar free diet seems to help me. I am afraid to try the carb heavy IBS diet but desparate for relief from constant bloating/constipation/pain.... Any ideas on how to determine candida vs IBS? Already had every test done...

Hi moontrousers,
Under the guidance of several nutritionists, I followed a strict anti-candida diet and supplement regime for several years. I did this because I thought that getting candida under control would help my IBS, but it didn't. In fact, I think that eating salads and lots of vegetables (as recommended) and cutting out all fruit made my IBS flare up more. However, I carried on with the diet until last October, when I discovered this website. As my IBS was bad, I made a decision to give the EFI diet a trial. It was a bit scary adding in fruit and eventually sugar and yeast, but I actually found that my IBS symptoms lessened. So I have continued to follow the EFI diet and I am feeling much more stable and generally better. I think that it's a very indvidual thing - whether to focus on IBS or candida. I suppose it depends on which is giving you the most trouble. In my case, I don't think the candida ( if I really had it!) was a cause of my IBS. So I shall continue to follow the guidelines of the EFI diet and enjoy a wider variety of delicious, healthy food, too.
However, IBS is highly individualised. Do whatever works for you - and if it doesn't work after a fair trial, try another approach.

I have been confused about this for years, as they have similiar symptoms! It's like, which one do you really have? So I have decided to follow a chinese medicine way of thinking, in that I have damp heat... that way, it doesn't have any kind of western label that gets me obsessing over cures.. basically with damp heat, u are to eat small, cooked meals, and it is also very influenced by stress and anxiety. I look at these two things most of all before getting into all the other things. Obsessing over which I have, and how to "cure" either one of them just makes everything flare up so much worse for me!! So I try to minimize the stress and eat what feels right for me.
