I went to get some immodium today after seeing a few people say it helps them. Question is, do I get the regular brand or the advanced brand?

When I started, I started with half a tablet of regular. It's pretty potent.

THanks for the tips guys. What do you mean when you say it's pretty potent? Doesn't it help to stop the D?

It really stops the D. That's what I mean - it's a pretty strong med. so I would start with a smaller dose and work your way up,

I am actually at the point that it takes three regular and advance and at least an hour before it works. If I am not going anywhere, I will not even take it and I usually am better in about an hour. I also haven't needed it much in the last six months, I used to take it every other day last year.

Personally, I try my best not to take it because I don't care for medicines. If I am at a point where I know I need it, I take it.
From what I have come to understand about Immodium, it doesn't prevent you from having to go to the bathroom, but what it does is slow the travel of matter in your bowels. In a way it constipates you, it's how I kind of view it. When you have diarrhea, you have a very liquid movement. Immodium slows it down and reduces the number of trips to the bathroom.
It works to reduce some of the pain and diarrhea for me, but I will most often develop an issue of constipation after using it. I suppose that is one reason I don't really use it.

Actually in some way to ease my mind and take some of the weight of IBS off me, I developed my own IBS care bag which includes: Immodium Chewables, Metamucil Capsules, Ginger Capsules, Ginger Altoids, Peppermint Tea Bags, Sanitary Seat Covers,A Small Ruffles Trash Bag (when I have a very painful bowel movement, it often triggers my vega nerve; I vomit or sometimes cough with the urge to vomit. This small bag comes in handy), small koosh to pull at when I am in pain (sadly, I used to dig my finger nails into my skin to take my mind off the pain),tissue, and hand sanitizer.

Okay, Lynn, call me stupid...what's a vega nerve?

From what I understand of it (and very little too) its is a nerve that helps to regulate digestion and sleep among many things.

Does any of those items help with the gas. That has been my main problem. So, much that sometimes I can hardly stand up.

Randi - do a "search" on "gas" on all forums with no time restrictions and read all the posts. You might come up with something similar to what you're experiencing and find some help there.

Wow! This is a great idea - I've never heard of ginger capsules or ginger Altoids. Of, course, I never leave home without Imodium, dicyclomine and bottled water! This board is just full of helpful information - and creative, too! Blessings, KaybeeC

I get the Advanced, because gas is always present when I have an attack of diarrhea. I used to buy generic version of Imodium, but I haven't seen generic "Advanced" - price it at Sam's or Costco or other big wholesaler / retailer. It can be significantly cheaper there. Blessings, KaybeeC

I'm not sure, but I think it's "vagus" nerve, in case you want to look it up for more info.
