i am not actually new to this forum. in november 2003 heather helped my husband with his ibs and changed his life. we will always be grateful.
i am writing, not because i have ibs, but because i have a very rare infection for which i must take several antibiotics for 6 months to 2 years. i'm on day 5 and it is affecting my stomach and bowels--much like my husband's symptoms, without pain. i'm wondering if taking the soluable fiber supplement and possibly adopting the ibs diet would help (perhaps even to prevent ibs when this therapy is over.) if you think the soluable fiber supplement is a good idea, what would be the maximom dose, and how should i build up to it. for my husband it was 12-15 grams, i'm just not sure if it would be the same for my situation. thanks so much!! bonnied

I'm new, but maybe someone else can second my thought on you taking some probiotics. Maybe you can talk to your doctor about this. When I took antibiotics my doctor actually gave me a probiotic to take meanwhile.

Do you think it may just be an adjustment period that you're going through?

At the top of the Diet forum there is a listing about Acacia fiber and how to increase dosages.

You're right about taking probiotics when on antibiotics. I had to do this when on anibiotics even before IBS. Just remember to take the probiotics at least 2 hours after taking the antibiotic.

I don't think that antibiotics lead to my IBS, as the last time I was on them was more than a year before my IBS reared its ugly head. At the time, I took Country Life's Powerdophilus once a day, and it worked quite well. These days, with the IBS, that brand is no longer strong enough for me and I've switched to Primal Defense.
