It's very harsh and produces a lot of gas.

how come I read such opposing things on the internet about it. Some websites say it doesn't produce gas and other websites say it does. And some medical websites recommend it for IBS. Is it generally not recommended for IBS here? I am very confused by all this

I took it by mistake and in the trash it went as I have C and it made things 100 per cent worst.

I think that the websites that recommend psyllium for IBS actually know nothing about IBS and think that IBS = constipation and psyllim would take care of all the problems. It's true that psyllim might be very benefitial to a person with healthy gut. However, most of the people with IBS find it too harsh, irritating and gas producing.
My own experience is that psyllium made me very bloated, very gasy and in some cases (stress, etc.) made my constipation even worse. You can still try it if you want. I would suggest trying only a little bit at first and see the results.
Good luck!

I do have a friend with IBS who swears psyllium husks have helped her greatly.

I, too, am finding relief with Metamucil, which has psyllium in it. Every person is different. Some health food stores package psyllium themselves. I've seen some starting out as cheaply as $2, if you wanted to try it.

web page Guess it is great for some people. Maybe I'll actually try it slowly! I did just tell myself I was off SFS forever, though! Except flax and fibersmart which contains flax.

Try it and see what happens since it's an individual thing, but a lot of people with IBS find it harsh.
