Hi Everyone,

First of all, I just want to say how grateful I am to have found this site at last. I finally feel like I am around people who know what I am going through!

Q. I usually always have porridge for breakfast made from whole grain Scottish Porridge Oats. I am trying to "break the cycle" of my IBS at the moment by following the guidelines on the IBS Diet Cheat Sheet, which states that whole grains are an insoluble fibre food and therefore not good to eat on an empty stomach. Does this mean that porridge made with this brand is not so good for people with IBS? Is there a safer alternative? I sometimes use instant porridge sachets (Quakers) if I am in a rush but these also contain whole grain oats. Help?!

Q. I also tend to have lashings of honey on my porridge...does anyone know if honey is an IBS safe food?

Sorry if these Q's have been asked before, but I am new and confused!

Read the ingredients on your porridge -- if it's just whole grain oats, that should be "safe." Oatmeal does seem to bother some people, but mostly it seems okay. I love it.

Unless you have a fructose (I think it's fructose) intolerance (do a board search for that -- it's come up tons of times), honey should be okay.

Welcome to the board! And yes, it's an incredible relief to know you aren't the only one going through this.
