Question about Z pac antibiotic

I'm on Day 2 of a five day course of the Z pac that my doc prescribed. I'm 29 weeks pregnant and I have been sick for nearly two weeks and this was a last resort.

Is there any preventive measure I should be taking to make sure the antibiotics don't mess with my stomach any further?

Buy some bottles of dairy-free Bio K+ at your local HFS if you can. Start slowly with it (1/4 to 1/3 of a bottle per day) and work up to 1/2 to 1 bottle daily. A course of antibiotics REALLY messed me up a few months ago, but the BioK completely stabilized me!

Thanks!

I'll check with my doc, but is that ok to take while pregnant?

When I have to take a Z Pac I make sure that I strictly follow the diet with NO cheating, and I take a couple of Immodiums in the morning and I usually do fine.

Hope you get better soon!

The z-pac seems to do a number on me (ibs-d), as do many other antibiotics. If you start to have a problem, can your doc switch you to Amoxicillin? It's safe in pregnancy (I have taken it) and much gentler on your stomach. Feel better.

I don't know why it wouldn't be, but make sure to ask your doctor. And make sure to leave at least two hours between taking your antibiotic and the probiotic.

Good luck!
