I am sure you will get a lot of responses to the controversial question. There is an interesting write-up on this topic on the FDA web site. It says Quote:
"Generally, over the years, the FDA has adopted EPA standards for tap water as standards for bottled water," Kim says. As a result, standards for contaminants in tap water and bottled water are very similar.
Generally speaking, there are few, if any, health advantages to drinking bottled water. The purity of tap water in the Western world is highly regulated and definitely less expensive bottled water. The only bottled water I drink is sparkling water.

It doesn't matter as far as IBS goes, but don't forget about fluoride, too. I drink filtered tap water (because our regular city water doesn't taste all that great), and my dental hygienist recently informed me that the fluoride is filtered out, just like if I were drinking bottled water. They put me on a special high-fluoride toothpaste since I'm getting none in my water.

It would be nice if they would filter out the chlorine they put into the tap water.
