taking peppermint capsules for a while CAUSES you to develop more frequent heartburn? I know if you have GERD you should not take them (maybe I do, and didn't know it). But you would think that it would just take one pill to cause negative effects. I didn't really notice anything until I'd been taking them 3 times a day for about 3 weeks. I've had occasional heartburn from time to time, but now I've had it every day for the past few days. So, I stopped taking the capsules, and more just arrived in the mail yesterday! I hope I didn't waste my money. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for your help.

Peace,

Kathy

Are you taking them on an empty stomach and far enough in advance of your next meal? Getting the timing right for taking the capsules is something I still have to make a conscious effort for.

I don't use peppermint caps, but I was using peppermint tea and Altoids for about 3 months and have had to stop because I developed some upper digestive symptoms that I did not have before such as indigestion and slight nausea. I talked to my doc and he said take pepcid which does help. I have stopped any peppermint and am hoping to get back to normal. I was having enough problems with my lower digestive tract to now have to deal with the upper part as well.

I never had GERD problems until I started taking the peppermint caps, unfortunately. It didn't matter if I took them a good hour before eating. I needed 8 weeks of prilosec to make it go away!
