Sucrose is just table sugar so this is fine - thank goodness. I'd be lost without dessert.

I was taking Caltrate-Plus D b/c I was primarily d but now I am having more c symptoms and gas so I was wondering if I should switch. I'm getting quite confused about the magnesium posts...I'm so scared to add any for fear of d. According to Sand's research, carbonate is better for d, but what about citrate? Anyone with IBS A or C out there take a calcium supplement and which one? (I really wouldn't classify myself as C...I just think that with the diet, acacia, and lexapro I am more "normal" if that makes sense so I don't want to overdo taking anything to make me "go" too much.) I am already upping my IF. Thanks.

I took calcium citrate with magnesium (333mg to 167mg I think, basically a 2:1 ratio) and I did fine with it. I did notice that it didn't help with my D in that I was still going as often, but it didn't aggravate the D either. I think the balance is pretty safe for an A.
I recently switched to the caltrate (calcium carbonate with vitamin D) because I ran out of the other stuff and wanted to try to reduce frequency of BMs by using calcium instead of Imodium (or using less Imodium anyway). I found it does help my D.

I have IBS-D & I take Caltrate Plus. I am very happy with this product. It is easy to swallow & does not cause any negative gastro-intestinal effects. I highly recommend it. I have been taking it for well over four months. I find that any calcium supplement with a high dose of magnesium gives me an attack, so this product is perfect for me.
Also, in order to get enough vitamin D from fortified "not-milk" products (or milk), one would have to consume a quart! There are natural sources of vitamin D beyond sunlight, i.e. fish/shellfish (salmon, tuna, halibut, shrimp, etc.), dried shiitake mushrooms & egg yolks.
I'm sticking with the Caltrate Plus. I've tried other calcium supplements with disasterous results.
Kate, IBS-D.
