This is probably a dumb question but I was just wondering if pita bread is safe to eat? Thanks in advance!

Depends how it's made. I've seen whole wheat pita bread, and NO that's not safe. If they used too much oil (also possible) again, not safe...
I know for a fact you can make pita bread without any oil at all, but I doubt the commercial pitas are made like that...

I eat white pita bread all the time. It's one thing I'll snack on if I'm looking for a really safe snack. Whole wheat pita is IF and not a safe bread.
I usually buy whichever one is on sale, but haven't noticed much difference in fat/oil content. Most don't have very much. The one I'm eating right now has oil listed as one of the last ingredients, 4g fat per 240 cals. That's very safe.

I eat white pita bread almost everyday and it's safe for me. I love to open them up, toast them and use peanut butter and jelly on it. Hummus and salsa (extra mild and I blend the salsa so it's not chunky) is something I love too, once in a while.

What kind of hummus do you use? Do you make your own (what recipe?) I see the store brands have citric or ascorbic acid added and I was not sure if that was safe? Thanks, Debbie

Hop over to the recipe board, and try Shell's artichoke hummus. YUM!

I'm too lazy to make my own...plus, it makes too much for me. Any suggestions....or are you all domestic and make your own?

I use "Athenos" brand but it does have HFCS and the acids but it doesn't seem to be bothering me. I love this stuff so I will go look for Shell's recipe to make it without the HFCS and additives.
