Brits have invented a new stomach???

I was recently reading some news stories and noticed this one, regarding the British inventing a new stomach. I was wondering if this might lead to discover of new treatments of IBS and if we might look for some new remedys or treatments for IBS suffers. Here is the link:

Very interesting! Thank you for pointing it out.
It is unlikely to directly lead to new IBS insights because IBS does not involve the stomach as much as it involves the small and large intestine.
Now if they could design a model intestinal system we might get some more answers to IBS

Maybe you should read the article, because it says they have invented a complete gut, including the intestines.

I read it from beginning to end. The only place the word intesting appears in the sentence "One company wants to use it to test whether a biscuit can release a specific nutrient in the small intestine."
The opening sentence states "British scientists have built what they say is the world's first artificial stomach ..." AND later goes on to say "The model gut's focus on the physical and chemical reactions that take place in the stomach promises to provide a more detailed understanding of food structure and its impact on digestion". AND "With a capacity about half the size of an actual stomach, the artificial gut can "eat" roughly 24 ounces of food. To date, the most substantial meal it's enjoyed is vegetable soup."
In fact, if you look at some non-US news items or go to the web site of the institution that built it you will see they report it as an 'artifical stomach".

The word 'gut' does not imply the intestine in this particular model. The normal use of the word 'gut' would imply the intestines too.
So how do you figure that it included a 'model intestine' too?

The precise description of the 'model gut' developed by the Institute for Food Research in the UK is

The model is built on a modular design and includes a simulation of the main body of the stomach, a region with a specific inhomogeneous mixing behaviour, followed by a unique emptying routine. Digesta from the main body of the stomach 'empties' into a model of the antrum (the lower part of the stomach). Here the digesta is subjected to high shear, forcing mechanical breakdown of the food structure. The final stage of the model is designed to simulate the conditions found in the duodenum (the first section of the small intestines).
This model stops well short of being a model of the whole gut including the small and large intestine.
