I started taking a probiotic and it seems to work well. I was just wondering exactly why it worked. I tried searching the net but not really find any useful info. I know is deliver the "live" stuff in yogurt and that it's good for you. I just wanted to know why.
Does anyone know?
Thanks!

Hi
Most people have "healthy" bacteria in their intestines. These bacteria help us digest food by fermenting and breaking down some of the foods that we can not. Some people with IBS or those who have been on prolonged courses of antibiotics end up with a reduction in the number of these healthy bacteria. In the abcense of these bacteria, bad bacteria can grow out of control which can cause abdominal symptoms. In addition, the lack of healthy bacteria can disrupt the normal digestive process. Taking probiotics helps to restore the healthy bacteria to the GI tract and prevents the growth of bad bacteria. I hope this helps...and no matter how it works...if you find it helps - stick with it!!!

Thanks! I'm taking Enzymatic Pearls. I have IBS D and it seems to help in keeping me from having really loose stools. But I'm also taking Acacia and I've noticed it not at "sticky" since I've been taking the probiotic.
Does that answer your questions?
