Before I had this dreaded IBS, I used to drink a lot of chicken broth made from Chicken Bouillon cubes. Does anybody drink this and is it safe?

Which brand do you use? Some of them contain MSG, lactose and high amounts of fat. For example Knorr chicken bouillon cubes contain: salt, msg, partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil, chicken meat, chicken fat, lactose, hydrolized protein (corn, soy), sugar, yeast extract, natural flavor, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate, spice, caramel color, tartaric acids, citric acids.

Yes, Knorr was the brand that I used to use. Do you know of a safer brand to use?

I used Imagine brand chicken stock when I did my colonoscopy prep. They make good soups too. They are in tetra paks and very yummy. I am allerigc to msg and they don't have any!

Hi, Did you get the Imagine brand of chicken stock in the grocery store or in a special foods store?

I drink a mug of it practically every day - either mid afternoon or at bedtime. It really helps curb hunger - though it's salty so I try not to drink too much of it! I like Knorr's vegetable broth. I don't know if it has MSG or not, though. Sorry. Just read your labels carefully and make sure it's fat free or very low in fat.

Swanson offers organic vegetable, chicken and beef broth in the tetrapak (I don't care for beef, though). It's more expensive, but has fewer chemicals AND is less salty than conventional brands.
(And I *do* like to stock up when the natural foods store has a sale on Imagine and Pacific brands!)

I like Pacific Natural Foods free-range, organic chicken broth as well as their organic vegetable broth (both come in low-sodium versions too). You can usually find these in the health food aisle at your local grocery store.
