Hi there! I am IBS-D predominant. I finally gave up on the Fibercon capsules as a supplement because I've been on them a month, and I feel they are just not helping me. With sticking to the diet pretty strictly (1 or 2 exceptions) and the Fibercon, I was feeling good 2 or 3 days a week as compared to feeling lousy all the time. But this past week has just been attack after attack, even with the soluble fiber foods and the peppermint tea. I'm under a lot of stress right now, but it just can't be helped. I'm also going on vacation at end of week and hope to feel better by then. So I'm going to give up the Fibercon and try a new supplement. I looked at Benefiber since it worked for me before. But I noticed they have now changed the formula. It used to be "guar gum", I think. Now, the main ingredient is some sort of "wheat bran" or "wheat fiber" which automatically set off my alarm bells. So, I decided to try Citrucel tablets since that's what Heather reccommends, and they are cheaper anyway. But would like to know if anyone has tried the "new" Benefiber or has any input about the new ingredient. Thanks.

I think if you check the label you will see that the soluble fibre is wheat dextrin. It is suppose to be gluten free.

I haven't used Benefiber since they switched, either. I did, however, pick up Walgreen's knock-off powder version, which contains maltodextrin and guar gum. Haven't tried it yet, but I have high hopes.
You might also try Fiber Choice if inulin is not a problem for you. It works pretty well for me, but I liked Benefiber better.

Thanks for the response! Funny, I was just in Walgreens last night. That's when I picked up the "knock-off" version, as you call it, of Citrucel tablets. I thought I looked at the labels pretty well, but I probably figured if it was next to the Benefiber, the ingredients were the same. Dang, those things get expensive, don't they? Thank heaven for generics! If the citrucel doesn't help, I'll try the other. But my problem with Benefiber and the like is: what do you mix them with? I can't do yogurt anymore, and I can't do most juices because they are too acidy for my GERD. So what do you put it in? Applesauce, maybe? I would still have to use the pill form while at work, anyway.

I have usually just mixed my Benefiber in water. There's a little taste, but it wasn't awful.
I've also mixed in apple sauce and oatmeal.
