they are soluble, yes. but they can constipate. lots of water with my nannners usually helps me. i love them, and they are a great source of potassium (as is Spinach, btw). when i cramped up during swimming or running practices in h.s., i would simply start eating a nanner or two a day, and the pain would go away! (hey, that rhymes!)

plus, you just can't beat 39 cents a pound!!!

I was hoping that's the case with bananas! They never seem to make my C worse, and I eat banana bread a lot!

Evie, does your IBS make it difficult to have your own classroom?? I'm so glad I found someone to ask about this. I don't have D very often, but I do get terrible cramping sometimes, especially when I'm anxious. At times like that I feel miserable if I don't get to a bathroom, and sometimes it's not possible to just dash out of a room full of kids! I substitute taught once, for one day, and thought I was going to explode because I couldn't go to the bathroom until I dropped the kids off at specials. How do you deal with your IBS issues in the classroom?

Good luck w/ explaining to the kiddos about your pooping window. I can see it now...

Mom: "What did you learn today in Ms. Kree's class."
Kiddo: "Today her pooping window was wider than usual. So we got to color!"

I have an IBS diagnosis from a GI doctor. I have been tested for Celiac's disease and the findings were negative. I went on the the South Beach Diet to lose weight and to try lower glycemic foods. My IBS symptoms have lessened. Does anyone else find that lowering carbs helps their IBS?

well, when i eat more veggies and lean meats i have less room for carbs... though i don't necessarily mean to eat less. i have noticed when i am doing this I poop a lot more.

Oh, I didn't mean to mislead you. I don't have a classroom, but let me see if i can help. I have IBS-C, and that made working at the children's unit of a psychiatric hospital a bit stressful. There was always more than one pair of eyes on those kids, though. Consider having a teacher's aide, that would take a load off! I remember having those in elementary school. I guess we're a little off topic from the IBS diet, but is that the setting you're hoping to teach in?
