Just started Heather's diet and I'm looking for a loaf a sliced bread that is safe from the general supermarket, not a health food store or homemade. What kinds of "white" is safe to buy? How about rye? or italian sliced bread...you know for a pb and j sandwich? Thanks

Always check the ingredients list, but I would go with a loaf of sourdough if you can find it. Generic white breads (like Wonder) are not what Heather recommends because they are more likely to contain dairy, HFCS, or other unnecessary ingredients. There's a brand of organic bread that I am able to find in my regular grocery stores. I think it's called "Rudi's Organic Bakery". Their country white and sourdough are both safe.

THank you. I'll look for that. What did you think about rye (without seeds) and the italian bread that is sliced? (haven't been to the store to check the ingredients)

Doesn't sourdough have milk in it? I always have reactions to it.

Very few are dairy and HFCS free. Brands change so much throughout the country but the first to check are English muffin toasting bread and cottage bread. I have one of each that is safe at my store and that is it. All the rest have HFCS. It is truly ridiculous. Good luck.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Is this packaged bread or bakery bread? Could you please post the brand name if there is one?

Thanks

Sourdough should not contain dairy. It's one of the safe breads Heather recommends.
