Hi,
Can anyone tell me if they use the frozen Rice Dream? It has 6 grams of fat per serving and I was looking a the vanilla kind. It looks really tempting to try - especially on top of pumpkin pie! Debbie, Ontario, Canada

We use it here, mostly because I can get it at the regular grocery and the other available non-dairy, frozen ice-cream-like substances are unknown to me.
Personally, I just prefer not to eat ice cream/-like substances even with pies as 'sweet' isn't my thing. However, one of my kids has been having a lot of trouble with lactose of late (I've been lactose intolerant for over 10 years, IBS not as long) and she has a bit of a sweet tooth.
Rice Dream is pretty thin and, I don't think even close to being creamy like ice cream, but if you can't have the real thing... it works.
read: It's not bad... at all, but ice cream it's not.
I did like their ice cream sandwiches and bars dipped in chocolate with nuts all over them. That was awhile ago, tho!

Thanks, I was wondering if it was IBS friendly re: fat content? I am new to this. I remember the rice dream dipped bars too. I loved them but they stopped carrying them in our local stores. Not sure if I could have them with IBS now or not anyway. - Debbie

Personally, I thought the frozen Rice Dream was really awful. But, I'm pretty picky. I do love some flavors of soy ice cream -- Soy Decadent's Cookie Avalance is awesome.
Pretty much all the soy/rice ice creams are high in fat -- what you want to look at is the calories from fat, not how many grams of fat per serving. (If you take a look at the recipe board, this was explained by someone in a response to one of your posts a couple days ago.) Most of them are very high in fat, like 50% calories from fat -- so you'll only want to eat a very small amount after a low-fat, high-SF meal. Tofutti does have a couple brands of ice cream that are within the legal fat limits, but since they're soy-based you still don't want to eat them on an empty stomach.
I love Tofutti's Mint Chocolate Chip Cuties -- they do have high fructose corn syrup, though, so you'll want to be careful about trying them.

I have tried the Frozen Rice Dreams. I found it too thin and tasteless. I prefer eating the Frozen Soy desserts. Tofutis are good too.
