I am not on here much, just check out some info from time to time and I was just wondering what Break the Cycle Diet was. I have had IBS for more then 10yrs and I really don't know anymore about it now then I did 10 yrs ago. I really need to find a way to feel better at least some of the time. Maybe this is something that will help. Can anyone fill me in on this please? Thanks, Julie

Here's the explanation of the Break The Cycle Diet: web page.

The idea is to give your tummy absolutely nothing to object to for 2-3 days. That helps get everything calmed down. It's incredibly boring, but very soothing.

If you haven't already, you should read through the info on the Website outside the Boards. Just click on "Home" in the column to the left to get started.

Are you IBS-C, D, A, or P?

I am not sure what I am I seam to go from D to C then back to D all in one day. I wish I were just one then maybe it would be easier to know what to eat. The only thing I have noticed is that stress causes C most of the time. I am not sure what the other letters represent that you asked me about.

You sound like an A - 'A'lternating between C and D. Stress definitely makes C worse for me. You can try the hypno CDs to help with the stress.

oops I ment the stress causes D. Which brings me to my next question. Is it possible that by taking imodium often that eventually it doesnt work for you anymore? Ever time I have to work or go somewhere ( drive more then a 1/2 hr. ) I freak out and end up with D. I usually take two imodium after a few bm's. I used to be good after that but, lately I have another bm within the next hr and end up taking a third imodium. It says not to take more then 4 in a 24hr period so I worry that eventually I will be taking 4 or maybe even need more. Do I need to worry? Is there anything besides tapes that can help with the stress? anything I can take? Thanks for all the help. Julie

It's in your best interest to learn to control/eliminate stress...through therapy or the hypno CDs. It's not a good idea to just try to mask it by popping pills. If you did find something to do that it would probably just be a temporary fix anyway. Go to the root of the problem. I did the hypno CDs and I'm seeing a psychologist right now. Those have been two of the biggest helps for me. They are more effective than diet! Some people do well with anti-depressants. I tried one for a while, but it only worked for a few weeks...then I started feeling wosre. I don't know anything about Imodium. I'm a C, so I stay as far away from that as possible :P
