It was the single most successful thing I've done to get a handle on my IBS. If you start keeping a food diary I'll bet you will find dairy really is a problem. For example when I started testing what I could handle, I thought I could tolerate yogurt, then I cut it out of my diet and tried to put it back in - it was a big problem. I had been eating a lot of it too. I also used to drink Lactaid milk or take lactase pills but they didn't work. (Whey and casein..) If you can truly see that dairy is making you sick, it makes it easier to cut it out. Almost a self behavior changing experiment. I no longer crave dairy at all.
I drink soy dream original enriced soy milk and find it quite tasty. Silk soy yogurts are delicious. The Tofutti cream cheeses are good. Soy Delicious and Soy Dream ice creams are delicious (delicious - chocolate peanut butter and dream - vanilla fudge swirl). But just remember when trying soy or rice or almond substitutes - don't expect dairy! It's not going to be as rich as dairy. Just try to remember that it's that richness that's probably tearing up your guts. I never used to like dark chocolate and now I love it.

Anyway, try cutting the dairy and putting it back and then you'll know. Best of luck!
