Sometimes I take acacia with a meal, and sometimes I take it between meals. I've never had any problems with it, and I started at a fairly high dose. I think you need to experiment with it and see what schedule works for you.

I'm IBS-C and I use to mix it in water three times a day and didn't really enjoy doing that. Since I drink water all day (and always have) I started adding 2 tablespoons in a 32 oz. Nalgene water bottle twice a day. That way, I get all my fiber and water and it has helped tremendously with bloating and gas (and I thought it would give me gas!), but I haven't seen big benefits with the C.

Nalgene bottles are available at most outdoor stores or sports stores and are made of some kind of plastic that resists bacteria. If you don't drink as much water (or fiber) as I do, you could just try it in a small water bottle.

I've found that acacia helps with my cramping, but it doesn't help with my C. That is helped by IF at every meal along with getting enough liquids and exercise. What the acacia (and other SF) does do is keep the IF from cramping me up.
