Just had my colonoscopy...

I just had my colonoscopy today, and the gas is horrible. Besides that, though, that's the only symptom I have. The prep was the worst! The laxative I had to take was so horrendous, I almost vomited it all up afterwards (sorry, TMI!). It was... an interesting experience. I just hope I don't have to take that laxative any time soon!
Oh yeah, now it's official: I do have IBS.

Yeah, the prep is the worst. I remember that I couldn't get my last dose of phosphosda down. Just couldn't make myself. I remember nothing of my actual procedure or immediate after, though my husband told me I asked some intelligent question.

Yay to the procedure being over for you!

I'm glad to hear your colonoscopy went well! Sorry to hear that the day before was so bad. But at least you know for a certain that you do have IBS, and it's not something else more serious. IBS is serious enough, but I think cancer or other life-threatening conditions would be worse. (I have a family history of cancer, a little worried but my Dr is pretty sure that's not going to be an issue.) I do have a question though, how did you feel the day after?

For me, the effect of the laxitive wasn't so bad (I mean, I expected to be cleaned out). It was the taste of the laxitive (Fleet phosphosoda). I mean, it was just completely and utterly FOUL. Yuck. It was so awful I could remember the taste for about a month afterwards. I mixed the first dose with diet 7-Up, which I don't like anyway and the second with Gatorade. I haven't had Gatorade since.

Sorry to not be encouraging, but the taste...ICK doesn't begin to describe it.

THAT is what made the prep so horrible: the taste! I chose the cherry flavored one, and now I gag on any cherry flavored candy (it WAS my favorite flavor, too).

The day after wasn't as bad as I thought. I was just very gassy! Even three days after, I'm still taking the maximum dose of Gas-X! Suprisingly, that was the only side effect.

Good luck!!! Good news: the actual procedure and after isn't bad at all. I hope it goes OK, though!

Great! I'm glad to hear that!! (Not that you have gas-b/c no one wants that-but that gas it the only side effect you've had.) I took off work the day after just in case, because w/my employer taking a sick day is equal to sabotaging the company! Better safe than sorry. I just have to say that I love this website! I'm fortunate to have caring family & friends, but they don't always understand what I'm going through. It's nice to be able to talk to people from all different walks of life, all across the country & the world, that understand & can offer help & suggestions!

that gas will go away soon. It takes a couple days for it all to get out of your system.
