Hi everyone!

Ok, I did a search for pureed and mango on ALL boards and came up with no results, so i was wondering if maybe any of you, especially, Heather, knows anything about this. I recently had to switch primary care physicians (PCP) due to losing my insurance and having to go on state medicaid, blah blah... anyhow, my previous PCP who was just wonderful was very sensitive to my digestive problems and he agreed that he believed Zelnorm would be helpful to me, so he started me on samples. When I found that the Zelnorm was indeed having some positive affects, he officially prescribed me Zelnorm 6mg twice a day before meals. I've been on this same Zelnorm dosage for just over a year now. Although it isn't a cure it certainly makes a consistent difference. Now that I have this new PCP, he also agreed that my Zelnorm dosage is proper and perhaps the best thing to do for right now. He said that right now, treating the symptoms is really the only thing that can be done. He did ask me if I was interested in alternative types of treatment, to which I agreed, even citing Heather's website since her products are alternative treatments. But when I asked my new PCP about a writing me a referral to a colonoscopy he wasn't too concerned. I know I should get one anyway, but being on state medicaid means I'm at the mercy of what they deem to be necessary. Aside from the colonoscopy, I also asked hm about an alternative therapy called hydrocolontherapy or something. I could easily go look up the website for it, but I'm feeling kind of lazy... anyhow it's a glorified enema and my mother's homecare nurse suggested it to me because she swears by it. She said that after three-four treatments she was pretty much cured and was able to eat a lot more normally than before. The PCP said that he's not really a fan of those and he said that they are not dangerous but that they will either work for someone or they won't. So basically all I have to lose is my time and money if it doesn't work. I do know these treatments require licensings. There are clinics and spas that perform can perform them. Along the lines of alternative therapies, my PCP mentioned a lot of his patients who suffer(ed) from IBS drank mango and they swore by it, that it helped normalize their digestion a lot. I asked him if they at the whole fruit, skin and flesh, or pureed it or what, and he said it was pureed. Has anyone heard of pureed mango helping IBS at all?? I can't see it doing any harm, but I'm curious. I have a mango that looks like it's almost too ripe, going to puree it today, if I get the time. How would I process a mango, skin and flesh in a blender so that it's easiest to digest?? Geez I hope I'm not remembering the fruit incorrectly. It's been a long time since that appointment and usually I'm good at writing things down, but since then, I've been having a lot of memory problems, including forgetting where I wrote things down... I wonder if it was papaya and not mango? Sorry this got so long! Thanks for reading and for any help anyone can offer me. Take care.

Mango is one of the best soluble-fiber fruits, so it wouldn't surprise me a whole lot to hear those people swear by pureed mango.

What *I've* heard of as a digestive aid, though, is papaya. I used to work at a GNC, and we sold bottles of chewable papaya enzyme tablets, as a kind of alternative to Tums. They really do work, and I still use them on the rare occasion that I need something like that. So maybe that's what you're thinking of? Papaya is also another soluble-fiber fruit, so again, the logic for it helping IBS patients is sound.

Enemas and colon flushing and all that stuff is a bad idea for IBSers. There's a chance it might make you feel better temporarily, but there's a much greater chance that the trauma of having it done is going to actually make your IBS worse - IBS being a functional disorder that's worsened by gut trauma. You couldn't pay me enough to try that!

I feel your pain about state medicaid. I've never had a colonoscopy either, because none of my doctors here have felt it's necessary, and I don't have the money to go around medicaid and have it done anyway. I'm confident in my diagnosis anyway, so it's never been a concern to me, but yeah, medicaid is a pain in the butt - no pun intended.

Lol, nod atomic rose, I hear ya, that's basically what the new PCP thought, too, that a colonoscopy was probably not necessary for my age and he felt confident I was doing the best by treating the symptoms. Thank you for the tips and advice on the mango, papaya, and enema-type treatments. I will definitely make note of those chewable papaya tablets you mentioned from GNC. I'm really picky about papaya and mango; I've always preferred them in juice forms or sometimes in dried form. It would be funny if someone had me on video every time I pass by the kitchen - I pick up the mango and stare at it, turn it around, squeeze it lightly, make an odd face at it, and set it back down. The look of puzzlement is probably priceless. I've been doing this since I bought the mango 2 or 3 days ago. I better do something with it today though, or else I think it'll be over-ripe, hehe, and I'll have wasted money. Thansk again. for all the help you offered.

I buy just plain mango sauce and it's excellent! It gives me no problems whatsoever.

Cool, thanks. I prefer fruits like mango and papaya in juice, sauce, or pureed form, so it's nice to know that it's workin' for someone.

Being a high IF food, it's supposed to help regulate digestion. That's the best way I know how to put it. Maybe someone else here can explain it in more detail.

GNC's chewable papaya enzymes are the best tasting ones on the market that I've found.
