I have IBS and many health food calcium supplements give me gas and bloating. I know there are foods rich in calcium and I eat them but not enough to get the needed 1500mg. of calcium I need for perimenopause. I hate taking tums because they change the PH of your system and taste nasty. Has anyone had any luck with certain calcium supplements?

Peony,

I've just noticed your query about calcium supps.

Have you tried calcium citrate? It's water soluable, and supposed to be one of the better forms of calcium to digest. The body apparantly only absorbs what it can and any surplus is lost in urine.

If you do a search for calcium, this topic has come up a lot - including at least twice in the last few days.

BTW, I take issue with your statement that Tums changes the PH of one's system. I also take issue with your statement that they taste nasty, but that's a matter of opinion, not science.
