Hummus is made from chick peas, which are technically insoluble fiber but because they are ground up, its usually considered safe! I eat it all the time with no problems at all!

the hummus that I am using I bought at the store and the ingrediants are chickpeas, water, tahini(sesame)soybean and or canola oil, garlic salt, citric acid, modified cornstarch, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate to preserve freshness. The day after I ate it I had stomach cramps and was very nausous. Was there something in the hummus that could have caused it?

Could it have been something else you ate that day, or even the day before? Hummus doesn't bother me but everybody's different. Did you eat it with/on anything?

Hummus is a safe staple for me. Maybe you could look for a more natural brand and/or make some at home. But I would look for other things you ate that day (or overeating at a meal or stress or lack of sleep) as possible culprits first!

I think I remember reading that Tahini can bother some people. I don't have a problem with it.

There is a common grocery brand that I cannot tolerate and I don't tolerate hummus. The hummus that I eat is plain chickpeas and a little flavoring. The more natural, the better for me.

Yes, I haven't had a problem with it. Heather has also posted recipes for hummus on the IBS Recipes Board.

Hummus is my friend now. I can eat it with saltines, melba toast, pita, even chicken! It adds protein and flavor to the blandest of foods! Try it!
