Alright, so I got sick and tired of having either Chicken Breast or Gorton's Forzen Salmon for dinner. My stomach hasn't been great consistenly for some time, and so I have a full share of Perdue Ground Chicken meat in my freezer.
I decided last night to use this Ground Chicken and make myself on the George Foreman Grill, a Chicken burger. I figuered since this was Chicken meat, I'd be safe.
Well today, I don't feel great. I don't feel awful, but I do feel some straining, c, and pellet like, without any further illustraive pictures.
I am a bit confused and upset, because I can not keep eating Chicken breat every night, I would like to be able to have some meat to have as a burger, sloppy joe, on noodles.
The Ground Chicken meat was dark, and the nutrion facts were:
180 calories per serving 12 grams of fat
Bear in mind I used the George Foreman grill.
I wanted to know, is this safe, and if not, what alternatives do I have so I can have something, a burger, besides Chicken breast?
I can not stand Soy, Boca or any non meat variation. Would Perdue Ground Chicken breast work? Thanks.

It is recommended that only white chicken (breast) be eaten. If you can get chicken breast ground that would be much less fat then dark chicken. I understand your boredom and I use a lot of seafood. Ground turkey breast is what I use in pasta sauce or burgers. Watch the dark meat chicken and turkey! Good luck.

Dark meat poultry is one of the Big Four Trigger foods. Each gram of fat has 9 calories, so each serving gets 108 calories from fat. That's 60% of calories from fat. That's way high. Look for:
ground chicken breast ground chicken all white meat ground turkey breast ground turkey all white meat
I eat ground turkey breast and ground turkey all white meat all the time in meatloafs, burger, spaghetti sauce, sloppy joes, etc., and do fine with it. Kree's Peking Burgers are fabulous.

Hi Naturapanic,
I know it is challenging to find safe foods to eat, especially if you love burgers.
Sounds like 2 things happened here that made you sick: I am guessing you needed more soluble fiber- every meal should be 2/3 soluble fiber. Are you making sure to eat a soluble fiber base?
Secondly, dark meat chicken is higer in fat which makes it harder to digest and is a trigger food for people with IBS. Once your stomach is stable (go on Heather's "what to eat when you can' eat anything diet"), you can start eating WHITE meat chicken burgers again along with 2/3 soluble fiber base. Try going to whole foods and buy organic ground chicken breast and when you cook it in the foreman grill be sure you only use non-fat cooking spray, no oil, butter, etc. Also, what you put on your burger will also affect your stomach. Hope this helps!!

Hey, that is fair.
I am glad to know that the reason I feel bad today IS because of the ground chicken.
Nothing is frustrating then when I try to eat good and feel bad, without being able to have a trace, at least here I can say why I feel this way as I do.
Let me ask, how does ground chicken breast, ground white meat chicken, ground turkey breast, and ground white meat turkey taste?
Is there any big downgrade in this as opposed to dark meat?
How about price, and where can I likely find this meat?
I do not think I have seen it at Stop and Shop or Shaw's in Boston.
They have Jeano and Perdue 99% fat free ground Turkey, but they both taste horrendous, thanks.

You can buy it at the deli in Whole Foods, here are two Boston locations:
Massachusetts Boston (Symphony) Whole Foods Market 15 Westland Avenue Boston, MA 02115 617.375.1010 617.375.0169 fax Store hours: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
Boston Whole Foods Market Charles River Plaza 181 Cambridge Street Boston, MA 02114 617.723.0004 617.723.0404 fax Store Hours: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
As far as the taste I'm not really sure. I would recommend buying enough for one or two burgers so you can try it out first to see if you like it.

Do any of you know any specific brands? I bought ground chicken breast from whole foods two weeks ago, it was NASTY. It had no flavor, and I really have a meat craving.
I am tired of chicken breast, I want a burger that tastes like beef, which ground chicken and turkey can. I wanted to know if you have any brands which both taste good, not bland, and are safe to have. Thanks.

Are you putting in salt, and different spices to give your food some taste?

I ask the butcher at my grocery store to ground the boneless, skinless, chicken breast for me. It is really dry but with a lot of seasoning I love it now. I make these steamed dim sum dumplings with them and they are delicious.

Yes, it was simply BLAND. It tasted like Salmon burgers it was just that bad, I would like something that could be a substitute for meat.
Again, is there a specific brand you purchase?
I have two things which I am not sure are safe or not.
I have Butterball lean ground Turkey with 7% fat. I also have Perdue Ground Turkey Burgers with 7 % fat.
I would think these would be safe BUT the complexion of the meat is not white, can you let me know if I can have this? THanks.

I had lean 7% fat Ground Turkey. It did not look white, but it said lean. I felt bad after eating it, I do not understand why since 7% is lean and would seem too low to be dark meat. Thanks.

I think your mistake was getting ground chicken that wasn't completely white meat. Ground Turkey breast also is fine. Always check the fat content... usually if it is only white meat (no skin or dark meat ground in there too) then it is only about 1 gram of fat.
Both Aaron's Kosher 99% Fat Free Turkey ground turkey breast or the Turkey Store brand work well - it can be confusing though, because they also sell the the kind that is not just the ground breast so you must read and be careful. Another way to tell is the price... usually about $6 per pound compared to $4 for the bad stuff.
I have also found, sporadically, that they carry ground chicken breast raw patties at Trader Joe's - if you're in the mood for a burger.
Good luck, Leigh
