ok..so i did the right thing now as a newbie and read the diet guidelines and info for newbies. very, very helpful and it did answer alot of my questions. One question though: is all the information that Heather put on the forum in her "eating for ibs" as well? I found so much info with the trigger and nontrigger lists that I was hoping it would all be in the book so I can reference back to it easier (don't always have access to the computer). It also means I don't have to print it all out either! so if it is, then i'd like to buy it along with the first year book even though i have had ibs for awhile-still thought it could be helpful.

As far as I know, yes - the diet information on the Website is in the books (or vice versa, depending on how you look at it). I have both books. I find "The First Year" a more thorough explanation of IBS itself. It has all the diet information in it and lots of non-diet related helps (exercise, stress management, and so on). Besides all that, it's somehow very, very comforting. "Eating For IBS" is mostly recipes, but it does have a very tight, clean description of the diet guidelines in the first chapter. EFI also has the What To Eat When You Can't Eat Anything list - I don't think that's in The First Year.

My local library had "The First Year". Yours might also and/or it might have EFI, so you could take a look at them before you buy. You can also read parts of the books here:

The First Year

EFI

I think they're both definitely worth having.

Thank you! I think I will order them as I woke up this morning around 6:30 and was terribly miserable. Had a party at my house last night with lots of little snackies-veggies, fruit trays and dips. Boy oh boy..did I feel it this morning and now that I have read over the things on the do not eat list, etc...it's no wonder I was miserable this morning.

Thank you for your help!
