Hi,
I am having IBS-C, Acid reflux, and gastritis. I dont have peak IBS now..just having reflux...
doctor gave me protonix yesterday and I am having green stools after that. Does anyone have similar experience ? I am so worried...
I am not sure if I have high acid or less acid in stomach...but anyways I am getting treated for high acid. Is gastritis curable ? I was just dtected with gastritis drng yesterdays gastroscopy.
Please reply.

Talk to your dr. if your worried, or the pharmacist, but really I don't think it's cause for concern. Some medicines and even food can cause that to happen and sounds like your protonix is the cause. I think your dr. or pharmacist would be able to aleviate any concerns you have. I actually had this same thing last week and did a google search on "green stool" and found this site: http://ibscrohns.about.com/cs/otherdiseases/a/greenstool.htm

I've never heard of meds doing that, though I have heard if you eat too many green things, you will have green stools. what have you eaten lately?

Hi Nisha, Green stools are result of excess bile secretion.I doubt the protonix would do that, it may be possible though. Something is causing your gall bladder to secrete to much bile. I had that for a while when I was an undergraduate in my early 20's, and it was due eating too much fried foods. If you do eat a lot of fried or high fat stuff, that's most like- ly the cause of green stools. -Bob

If you got it right after taking protonix it could very well be from that. The last time I had a green stool it was from doing a sauna detox. Drugs can have the same effect. If you keep having it, you may be having a negative reaction to the drug. Be sure to tell your doctor if you have it again.
