How many of you have been tested for SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), what were the results, did you get treatment (ie antiobiotics/probiotics) and if so did it yield any effect?

I was just tested a week ago. It came out negative.  I was hoping I actually had this..but of course it says I'm "fine".

It's a lactoluse/bacteria breath test. Very painless. Have you had a lactose breath test done before? It's the same procedure. You drink a liquid containing some sort of sugar. Then, every 20 minutes you breath into a bag. They collect samples of your breath every 20 minutes for about 3 hours. Long...but painless and no prep!

Never heard of this. I've had a colonoscopy and endoscopy. How do they test for it?

I went to the GI doctor yesterday and they gave it to me to bring home. I'm not thrilled about taking antibiotics if I test positive but this is on the cutting edge for IBS so we'll see how it goes.

Well, Beth, my GI has finally ordered the test for me. Sadly, I think it'll probably come out negative, but at least I'll know and I can strike that one off my list.. I'll let you know the results when I get 'em.

I was so disappointed when the guy told me it looked okay to him. I was so hoping there would be a medicine to make it all better.
