I've been trying to stablize and have noticed that I can't tolerate soy products, dairy and that if I have bread or crackers, I bloat like no tomorrow and the air doesn't go anywhere. I sat down and looked over my eating habits over the past year and a half. I realize now that there were alot of signs that I didn't understand before my meltdown in August. One of the consistent triggers seemed to be waffles, bread especially whole grain and crackers -whole wheat, that's all I used to eat. I'm sorry to be so wordy, but is it possible to be super senstive to gluten and wheat, but not Celiac? (I had the test). I've started to be gluten free starting today and my tummy is still flat and I've mixed pureed lentils in with my white rice for the first time and I hurt as when I eat anything, but it was alot better than eating bread. So anyone else have this problem and how did you do without gluten? How soon could you tell a diff.? Thanks -Jenny

No way, no how. So if you notice that you're having problem with wheat products, get allergy testing AND get tested for celiac. If you've had the tests already, have them again - esp the allergy testing. It's possible that you've been misdiagnosed.
On the other hand, you mention whole wheat products being a consistent trigger, and that's understandable. Whole wheat products should be treated as insoluble fiber. What you're looking to be eating for a soluble fiber base are white breads and crackers, potatoes, rice, pasta. Not whole wheat. So if you've still been trying to eat whole wheat products and have had problems, do try switching to white and see if the problems continue.
Good luck!

Hey Casey - I haven't had whole wheat anything for about 9 mos. I actually have gone gluten free for 2 days and I am stunned. I still have a little twinge now and again during the day, but I didn't wake up in pain this morning for the first time in months. I'm still C since Sun. but I know that the tummy fiber has gotta have some time to work. I also yahooed "gluten & IBS" and it actually brought up Heather's website and newsletter for March 30,2005. She had a guest columnist who has IBS and a gluten intolerance. She was tested for CD and it came back neg., but she went gluten free and hasn't looked back since. This is the first time in a long time that I've felt hope, so keep your fingers and toes crossed. Jenny
