I've had the worst bloating and pain of my life after taking a Diflucan 7 days ago. Anybody else ever had this problem?

Diflucan is a very strong antibiotic...your reaction is not surprising though certainly not any fun! Always take accidophilus when you are on an antibiotic...it will put the good bacteria back into your body and it is bound to help your tummy.

I hope you are better soon!

Actually I'm not sure if Diflucan is an antibiotic. Another name for it is fluconazole and it is a new subclass of synthetic triazole antifungals. It kills the yeast in a chemical way where as the acidophillus (probiotics) as you said does it in a natural way and puts the good bacteria in your system.

I was sleepy when I posted that....I have taken Diflucan as I got a yeast infection due to taking and antibiotic. Regardless it is a very strong medication and one should be very careful when taking them.

Nelly is taking them for an extended period of time which I have never heard of. I have always been warned not to take Diflucan too often or for an extended period of time.

I would recommend that the original poster call her physician and ask if her symptoms are a side effect. My pharmaccy gives me detailed info about any prescription I take. It is wonderful...I hope all of the other pharmacy's do the same.

Some people do, and some people don't. Personally I've taken it twice and have not had problems. You're better off talking to your doctor about it.

I've been having major problems since I got sick about 8 weeks ago, one of the meds they gave me was fluconozale.. but since one of the other meds at the time was an antibiotic, I was blaming it on that... of course those were only taken at the beginning but I can't for the life of me get my belly stable and am still on decongestants (they were ruling out infection) due to my eustachean tubes not working, if it doesn't clear up by the end of the month they are talking about sending me to another specialist because the last one didn't find an explanation of how I get fluid in my ears when nothing else is wrong.. they were thinking allergy but that doesn't seem right either at this point.. then again I can't take antihistimines for other medical reasons, so its possible.. but according to the allergist I'm only allergic to tree nuts (mind you I got hives from dairy, and have never had a reaction to nuts- but thats what he sent back to my doctor! we both laughed but I'm putting off another round of specialists!)

I've never had a bad reaction to it. Are your symptoms still present? If so, I'd call your Dr. as soon as possible and get checked out. Diflucan is a powerful drug, so perhaps it was just harsh on your tummy when you took it. I know if I take certain meds on an empty tummy they give me pain and some gas.

You can definitely do this when you are experiencing chronic yeast infections that are stubborn and won't go away with one dosage. I think in that case, most doctors have you take it once a week for a specified period of time and not daily. While it's definitely not the most desirable thing to do, I've been told it's not harmful. Just FYI
