Does anyone know anything about a fiber supplement sold here in Israel called PEG (polyethelyn glycol)? Metemuecil caused my daughter too much stomach pain, so the health food store suggsted trying this. We don't have anything called Acacia here, though we have lots of Acacia trees!

PEG is not a fiber supplement; it's an osmotic laxative. Here's some more information about it: PEG - medlineplus So if your daughter suffers from the diarrhea predominant form of IBS, this definitely would not help her. If she's constipated, this would be something you should check with her doctor.
Other good fiber supplements are Citrucel (contains methylcellulose which is 100% soluble fiber) and Benefiber (contains guar gum, which is also 100% soluble fiber). Are these brands available in Israel? Maybe the products go by a different name but contain the same ingredients. Acacia can be ordered through this site; I don't know if that's an option for you.
Yes, Metamucil (psyllium) is harsh! I believe it's because it contains both insoluble and soluble fiber. You should look for a fiber supplement that contains 100% soluble fiber.
HTH!

Thanks so much for your information. I'm going to order the Acacia right now and tell my daughter not to use the PEG. By the way, do you (or anyone) know about using Aloe for immediate solution of constipation?
