I'm the mother of a 23y.o. IBS sufferer who has been following Heather's diet for the past year. The D is gone now, thanks to the soluble fiber (she reverts to it whenever the gas & pains start), but the trade off is that constipation has become a severe problem. Adding whole grain products gives her pains. We need advice!

So what sort of insoluble fiber is she getting? Remember, Heather's diet does not cut out fruits and vegetables! Whole grains can be problematic, but you still need to get insoluble fiber with every meal and fruits and vegetables are the best way to do this. Please do a search - this has come up repeatedly on this board and Heather did a special newsletter on constipation.

For immediate relife, I use Dulcolax supositories. They help get things going. As far as the soluble fiber is she on a supplement? she should be, to keep her stable. Also keep up on the fruits & veggies, & water!!!! Drink drink drink! Also excersize is crucial for C! Hope this helps.

I can NOT use any grain to get my IF, no whole grain ANYTHING, not oat, wheat, nothing, brings on pains and spasms and bloat.

I rely on fruits and veggies for my IF and also lately am having a lot of good luck with WELL COOKED beans. Amy's Organics makes a great Black Bean Vegetable and Lentil Vegetable that I actually read about from someone on here, anyway, they are becoming a good staple for me. I pop a couple beano first to head off gas but I surprisingly get very little gas from beans and helps BM's a lot.

GL!

I'm going to try those soups. What do you eat with them as an SF buffer....or any type of additional food to be a complete meal?

Did you start out slowly with 1/2 serving or anything to work up a tolerance? Or did you start with a full serving?

How many beano do you take with them?
Thanks!

Hi Michelle, oh ho, things are starting to click in my head.
About two weeks ago, I went out to new Mexican restaurant in
my area, the only one around in my area, unless you count
Taco Hell. I went on a friday night, so just in case I had
the rest of the weekend to recover. I had a grilled chicken
salad with a ton of cooked black beans in it. To my surprise
, I woke up saturday not feeling too bad, somehat gassy, but
I didn't eat any beano(I have to try this stuff). However,I
had the best BM's in a while that day! This jives with what'
s happening with you. Very interesting. -Bob

Here's what I do, I break up a piece of my VERY safe homemade bread (white flour only, homemade guarantees no HFCS which is EEEEEVIL ...) anyway, I break that up in bottom of bowl and then pour soup over, to eat. Yummy...

I take 2 little beano tabs first. Works for me anyway!

Beth, I don't think the type will matter. Just make sure to
eat some(enough)SF before eating the bean soups.Like I just
posted to Michelle, she may be on to something really good.

I was hoping Michelle could give me some ideas. I'm not good with meal planning.

And I was also wondering how many beano she takes. Hopefully she will check back in.
