that was sweet *HUGS* back! i am still taking the acacia--1 TBSP in the AM-i find that if i drink tea and acacia around 7ish it helps a BM happen. but usually im so short on sleep from the night before that i rarely am awake before that time. i havent really been thinking about acacia-increasing. do you think i ought to try? im barely getting by on comfort now so trying and having it not work really couldnt hurt me---but i am so leary!!!!

as far as the psyllium goes, it does cause extra bloating. but i take it at night to avoid that. i should think i wouldnt be too bloated during the day but i always am! last week i did the B.T.C. diet and just ate rice/peas, pretzels, weetabix, mangoes, pepp/cham. tea, blueberry juice and water and noticed i was less bloated. but then that means that is all i can eat? grr with this syndrome!! im glad i have a similar friend. *HUGS* for you too hun!!

When I took Psyllium I found that I was bloated throughout most of the day. Have you ever thought of getting a mixture of fibres? For example flax has both soluble and insoluble fibre and it might not cause so much bloating and gas.

I am C. I take 4 probiotics/day (2 am/2 pm). I've been taking florajen. I think it's helping...I also take acacia and that helps. Between the 2, I usually have movement every day or every other.

Hang in there. I know this sucks.

Hi! http://store.yahoo.com/iherb/acidophilus2.html This should tell you all you need to know about the jarrow product. It specifically states it is suitable for vegans.

As to the jarrow making a difference in my actual bowel activity - yes things go easier when I'm taking them. Not as forced. However, I read this entire thread, and I'm a HUGE fan of the Acacia. The acacia feeds the bacteria in the jarrow (prebiotic/probiotic) and the combination is wonderful! My "normal" before IBS-C was a BM twice a day. I am now back to that pattern and it is wonderful!! Acacia and water are essential along with plenty of IF. Once you find your balance....well, that is the journey.

I don't mean to gush. I don't mean to imply I don't have bad days. When I eat something I shouldn't (ice cream, too much dairy of any kind - and I love the stuff! - , too greasy, too much food at once,) I pay in cramps, gas and spasms. Stress is my biggest trigger, so I have to try to manage that too. It is a daily thing like everyone else, but nothing I build my world around...just part of my life. I adjust my food ect.. when I'm having a bad day, but otherwise, things are pretty ok right now!

Hope this helps. Sorry to ramble.

Just the flax? How much per day?

Thanks. I'm trying to increase my flax to see if it helps. I've been at 1 T a day...and increasing it to 1 1/2 so far...till I get up to 2 or even 3 depending on how it goes.

Never, never, never did I think this would be my life. Revolving around my bowels and BMs. Life can be cruel and so twisted. My GI doc said this is one of the cruelest thing a person who had had an ED could get. With having to remain on restrictive diets and the false sense of fat. Not to mention the pain.

He said people with EDs are good enough at beating themselves up and thinking they deserve pain...and the IBS helps reinforce those feelings. I know it does for me.

Is that enough to make a difference? Or do you take one before every meal? Maybe I need to increase.

this blasted IBS is so expensive!

It seems to be enough for me. The box says 2 is the most of this to take. Supplements are expensive, so I'm limiting mine as much as possible. Iherb is a great place to save money on name brands that you can trust. I hope this helps.

Hi Ashley, Say, weren't you doing really well when you were
in Croatia? Like so well, as though you didn't even have IBS
If so, there's obviously something to that. Could you recrea
te the diet you were eating there? Obviously, you can't exac
tly recreate the scenery unless you had the hollodeck of the
Enterprise available to you. Maybe you can devise reasonable
facimilies of the conditions there the that made you so stab
le? Just an idea. -Bob

Say Beth, Did Dr.J say that? Have you recently seen him? If
so, did he say when he's going to start the new med trials?
I might email him or Margo about the fed budget cuts on dig-
estive disease research as it obviously directly affects him
. He may already know though. Also, when I iron out my new
theory, I might bounce it off him. -Bob
