Question for Heather about Fluid Intake

Hi Heather,

I have a question about the timing of our fluid intake. I'm usually thirsty during meals, and so drink around 3 cups of (weak) green tea right after each meal. It also helps me feel sated really quickly. Is that okay to do, or will it dilute the digestive enzymes? I tried the search function on the site, but there wasn't a definitive answer on this.

Thanks!

Just bumping this up. Fluids are critical when you're adding soluble fiber to your diet, so if Heather doesn't know the answer to this question, hopefully somebody does. But if someone else answers, I'd like a link to an 'authoritative' source...not somebody's best guess.

Basically, I don't want to drink fluids at a time that they'll either interfere with digestion, or that they won't be absorbed by the fiber I'm adding. So any tips on "timing" fluid intake would be greatly appreciated.

....I can quote her directly

This is what she says about drinking with meals on this page:

Quote:

*Drink fresh water constantly throughout the day (not ice cold). Limit the amount of water or other fluids you drink with your meals, as this can inhibit digestion.

Personally I drink warm/room temp water and herbal teas all day long, expect while I'm eating and for about 30 minutes after eating.

Thanks retro! I completely missed that.

Now, I just have to figure out how much is too much.

I think I may be drinking too much...if that's possible. I tend to drink tons of decaf tea and maybe this is why I burp so much?

I usually drink between 2 and 3 litres a day, 2 of which is usually hot or room temp herbal teas.

I can't drink black tea, even decaf, unless it's brewed really really weak (at which point it doesn't really seem worth it to drink to me). It doesn't really cause an attack but it makes my stomach feel all funny and cranky... if that makes sense, lol I do miss my earl grey though!

While it is possible to drink too much water (hyrdothermia or something like that) and dilute your sodium stores and other not-fun stuff... it would take A LOT of water. Heather says we should drink 8 8oz. glass of water a day at least, and that we should aim for twice that or more. That would be 4 litres or more.
