Hi everyone! I have a question about Gas, Cramping, and Diarrhea. I made a blunder and ate a small portion of fast food. I just don't understand sometimes how I can have such horrid pain within 5 minutes of eating. I had gas and could feel it curling up in my intestines, where you hear a gurgling sound and feel pain. It felt like cramping I suppose.
I found myself in the bathroom doubled over and I immediately had the runs. It was so bad that at one point, the bowel movement was clear with stringy yellow portions, which I think was mucus.
Has anyone experienced diarrhea that near the end of the attack, it became clear with traces of mucus?
I am embarassed to talk about it, but I don't really have anyone else I can talk to about this.

Lynn, I know the feeling - there is nothing worse than an attack while you're out. I find that if I have a bad attack with diarrhea, by the end it is just yellow liquid, and I've always presumed it's just your bowel trying to empty itself so fast that it's thrown out everything in your system, whether it's ready to go or not! I also find that if I get in this state, even Imodium isn't going to work fast enough - I once took 6 in just over an hour in desperation and they didn't kick in at all. Maybe Heather will have more info, but I hope that helps Keep posting, and don't worry about being embarrassed - we've all been there! Sarah

Thank you Sarah! I am so glad Heather made a messageboard. There is such great information and support here.
I understand you and I thought the same thing. I figured that my body wanted to purge itself. Since there wasn't any digested food left, it purged mucus along the bowel lining and the excess water.
Honestly, I can deal with having to go to the bathroom. It's the pain that is just unbearable.
But, today is a new day, and I feel better, right? Take it one day at a time. Every day I feel better is a success.

Lynn, One thing I have found the longer I have had ibs, if I'm going in to a bad attack, I calm right down, cooldown (open windows etc) and breathe through the pain, because I know it's going to be over within an hour or so and I can deal with that. I found it to be similar to labour pains, but at least it doesn't last so long! Sarah

Hey Lynn, I've noticed that too! After I eat something "bad", it bothers me within 5-10 minutes. It's like, can it be digesting already??" My doctor gave me a prescription to this drug, called Lomotil or Lomotol. Not sure how it's spelled...at the end, and il or an ol. I take 2 before I go out somewhere, like if I'm going to a movie with my boyfriend or if I'm going to the mall or something. It stops the cramps and the runs completely. I used to take them all the time, but since I started Heather's diet, I've only had to take them once so far. I'm onto my 2nd week on this diet, and I feel so great!!! I'm regular again! Don't ever feel embarrassed...you can say anything you want!!! It's all good!
