Since cutting back fat, trigger foods, etc. for IBS, I have been losing weight and have not gotten my period in months. I was wondering if anyone had gone through a similar thing and/or if anyone had any insight on how to gain a bit of weight (or at least maintain) in order to get my period again (it is now considered amenorrhea) and yet stay within the confines of IBS eating guidelines. Thank you!

I lost over 40lbs during the month june thru aug and my menses never stopped. Though since I cut fat and food triggers out of my diet I don't experience bad cramps anymore nor mood swing feelings. I would definetly go to the obgyn and get a opinion and get checked out. I'm one of those lucky gals that get it every month on time, 7to14 days. Are you using birth control? That could explain an absence also. sherri

Hi - try doing a search of the boards with no time limits about missed periods. It's come up a few times in the past.
If you're trying to gain some weight, I like to refer people to this past post, because it's a great, IBS-safe way to gain some weight: web page
Good luck!

Sheri it is intersting you wrote you don't experience the bad cramps and mood swing anymore. I still experience mood swings, but no cramps anymore and I never connected it to diet change. Glad you brought it up.

I'm glad we can share this info. The only thing I can say that still gets me, b/m I get a little spasic, but teas are helping that. Sherri
