Is what I have IBS?

This is my first time posting. I am 27 and my symptoms started about 5 years ago. I went through a really stressful period so I thought the "D" and stomach rumblings were part of the stress. 5 years later I have chronic D and my stomach is ALWAYS unsettled. I have to honestly say that I haven't made a lot of effort where my diet is concerned, but I feel like it's something more than IBS because of how often and how bad my D is. I've gone to two GI's and three family doctor's and everyone agrees that it is IBS. One of the GI's thought it might be Crohn's. With my insurance, I cannot afford a colonoscopy just yet. I am scared to death that I have something more serious and by prolonging it, I will be in real trouble. I don't get any pain, just ALWAYS D and stomach rumbling. It is absolutely horrible during my period and especially in the morning. I have alternatives and nothing seems to work. Can someone tell me what my first step should be in all this? I feel overwhelmed!

Hi Texas, If you've had no blood in your stool, it's not Crohn's. I'm pretty sure. There is a Crohn's board here for you to check further. -Bob

Hi and welcome,
The only way you are going to know for sure is to rule everything else out, and unfortunately, that includes the colonoscopy. In the meantime though, it won't hurt you any to try Eating for IBS to see if it changes anything. Here's the best place to start. You can also check out the book at a library, if you don't want to buy it.
