Rox, I'm a C so can't relate to the diarrhea after, etc. , but your post reminded me of my first colonoscopy. I'd had a barium enema that hadn't gone through at all. Colonoscopy: Can't remember the prep, couldn't have been too bad. Asleep all through the procedure. It had been so long since I had a night's sleep, that I didn't wake up for hours. They put me in the ER and watched me. I woke up once in a while to see what was going on and then right back to sleep. Really nice. The doctor said I had a very tortuous bowel and he was tired after the procedure. I've had three since, but this is long enough. Anyhow, relax and enjoy it if you can.

Tomorrow is my prep and I'm still nervous, but you all are making me feel a little better. I really, really appreciate all the advice and encouragement.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I too was nervous as hell. You're right; it's totally the prep the day before that's the worst part. Totally.

The actual procedure was a snap. They give you a drug that knocks you out, you don't feel a thing. I had the BEST sleep! And when you wake up, you just float out of there; it's the best stuff EVER!

Afterwards was great. Truly. Absolutely no pain, just a light airy feeling like you're floating, almost better than Jack Daniels! I won't hesitate next time I have to have a colonoscopy. I think I have 2 more years to go.

My advice to make it more bearable? Try to relax. Watch "Ellen" on TV and have a good laugh. Try to find the humor in it (it CAN be kinda funny). Oh, and think of all the others who have gone through it too. Actually, Ellen was one of 'em. Her colonoscopy story was HYSTERICAL!

Don't fear the cramping after taking the laxative, 'cause it's all that other stuff comin' out that's a royal pain in the A$$!

My Dr. said that I can only drink clear liquids from the day before the procedure. Are vanilla popsicles okay to eat? They're white and not clear but will it be okay?

I try to get my daily fix as she can make me laugh. Not a contentious bone in that woman's body!
