So, I thought that everything was going okay with my new prescription for bentyl- in fact it seemed that it was helping with my spasms and D attacks. However, the past few days ( I have been taking it for 2 weeks exactly), I have started breaking out in hives after taking it--really dry, red, itchy bumps on my face, arms, back and neck. Has this happened to anyone else who takes bentyl? I was wondering if anyone had success with any other anti-spasmodics. I am going to try and return to my doc. in a few days if I can get off work. Any thoughts?

I am allergic to Bentyl, found out by taking it for a few days and then my arms and hands began shaking uncontrollably. Was taken care of by an ER visit to get an injection of Benadryl and then oral Benadryl for a few days while the Bentyl got completely out of my system.

If you are allergic, it probably would have showed up sooner than two weeks after taking it, I would think, but I could be wrong. Definitely talk to your doctor, and take some Benadryl in the meantime to help with the hives. Good luck.

So did you switch to something else?

At that point yes, to Librax, which I built up a tolerance to and it did nothing. I'm now not on any antispasmodics. In fact, I managed my IBS with peppermint caps, Acacia, and behavior (diet, getting enough sleep, reducing stress).
