Hi,
I've eaten black beans 3 times in the past 2 days (my wife made a ton of them!). I took beano with them the first meal and the 3rd but not the 2nd. I was a bit gassy and d yesterday during the day, but nothing too out of the ordinary. The 3rd meal was last night for dinner, I felt fine afterwards but I woke up at 420am with bad stomach cramps and gas. I've always eaten beans, but I wonder if I can't handle them anymore. Anyone have a secret for surviving bean ingestion? Anyone sworn off them? Dan

I haven't sworn them off, but if I have too many in too short of a time, they cause me problems. I can only have a small serving every once in awhile. I wouldn't probably have more than 2 servings 2x in a week. And those servings would be very small!

Because they are high in insoluble fiber, try having them with some soluble fiber to counteract the effects. Also, don't have them so close together. This is tough for me b/c I am a vegetarian! But I am getting better at moderation.

Hi Dan, I still eat them ocassionally, but not a whole lot in one sitting, just like a cups worth or so. They even seem to help get me to go. You also have to make sure they're cooked long enough, if not you will get much more gas.You must've hear the old limerick,
Beans, Beans, Good for your heart, The more you eat, the more you fart, The more you fart, the better you feel, So eat beans with every meal.

I eat black, pinto, or garbanzo beans 2-3 times a week. I probably have about 1/2 cup with 1 cup of rice or a couple of tortillas. I make sure the beans are well cooked, and a lot of the time I'll puree them (bean dip) or mash them with a fork. I always make sure to have a cup of chamomile tea after I eat beans as a digestive aid. I've tried beano before, but unless I'm in a flare-up I don't need it.

I'm new to these message boards, so bear with me until I learn to navigate and make the use of abbrevs., etc. In response to "beans", I do not tolerate any type of bean well, so I avoid them most of the time.
