Heather suggested I post this here for additional feedback:
I've begun to consider there may be a connection between sex and IBS related constipation. Does anyone else experience such reprocutions? Any suggestions to abate the problem?

Yes, I have noticed having worse IBS symptoms the day following sex. Gas, bloating.... (maybe from inhaling air while excited? - just a thought...trying to keep this a CLEAN post) I don't know that one really has to do with the other...but yes, I have noticed it.
I would like to know what others think too.

Sex makes me have a BM the day after. Don't know if it is because it stretches the muscles or what. Even if I'm stable, it'll make me go, probably 9 times out of 10. Doesn't give me an attack though. I'm a D.
Sounds like fun research!

Hi there,
First off, I am not a C but a D.. I thought I would share anyway, for the other D people who might be wondering something along the same lines. When I was particularly unstable, I started documenting the times I had sex in my food/symptoms diary. At the end of a few months, it was really hard to tell... Some days I felt really poor if I had had sex the night before, but then I was so unstable that it was hard to tell if I would have felt poorly regardless. I definitely do notice, though, that I get more stomach cramping if I've had sex. I have a girlfriend, though, without IBS who experiences this sometimes as well.
So I think for me, with cramping and discomft it affects me but I can't be sure with BMs.
Hope this helps somebody!
Cheers! --Steph

I get cramping and the need to have a BM afterwards and some gurgling too. When I was C I really think the bedroom activity helped loosened me up, so to speak. (I'm IBS-A)

I am C and I agree that I don't think it makes things worse. I'm having a real bad attack right now of bloating, I'll let you know if I feel better tomorrow :

D here, not C, but I'll input anyway...
I find that sex can help with *cramping* the same way exercise can, really. If I'm in too much pain to move, well sex is probably out of the question. But otherwise, the expended energy (like exercise) and especially an orgasm can do wonders for calming my gut down.
Just my experience! I can say that I'm sure glad I'm on this side and not on the "sex makes my IBS worse" side... lol.

A few people have already said this but yeah . . I find that any sexual activity actually helps my IBS. I think maybe it has to do with a chemical/endorphin thing because it lowers my anxiety.. (I'm IBS-A) I'm sorry you're having trouble though.

would you consider sex stressful at all?? i could see how that may cause some problems maybe? i'm ibs-d, and i find myself having some problems i think i'm going to have pre-sex, mainly because i get scared i'll have issues durring sex. does that make sense? when we are into it though, i find myself not as stressed and my mind done'st stay on my gut anymore....unless i feel that i may have gas (though i am pregnant, and baby jumps on my intestines sometimes!!)
for me i've not found it a problem....however i'm ibs-d instead, and i know my trigger can be from just being nervous about it....i've been with the same sexual partner almost 2 yeras, and he's been through all of my ibs problems....and is totally supportive and understading for the most...and has even said if i passed some gas he wouldn't care...lol..but it freaks me out!!! i've also had some sexual issues in the past...not sure if that could be some too.
just a thought??
