Can triggers come up all of a sudden? Up until a couple of weeks ago, I used to enjoy a glass or 2 of white wine either during a meal or after. Lately, it seems to be bothering me where it didn't before. Also, I seem to be able to tolerate red a bit better. Any ideas on this? I would hate to give it up! Thanks, Sue

Hi Suzi, It may not be the wine remember. Have you been under a lot of stress lately? You may try stopping the wine tempo- rarily, say a week or two, then try it again and see what happens. -Bob P.S., I gather you like CCR?

I'm pretty sure he means the band Creedence Clearwater Revival. They sing that song Suzie Q.
As for the wine, I'd try cutting it out to see if you feel any better. If you start to feel better, then try adding it back in. And if you feel bad again, you can be pretty sure it's the culprit.

Ummmm....well, I know the song Suzie Q and I know of CCR, so I assumed that's what you meant. I didn't know for sure if they sang it till I googled it though. Not that on top of CCR I'm afraid!

Yeah, I pretty sure they wrote it too. South Jersey, eh? Do you know where Hammonton(sp?) is? I had a lot of friends from there when I went to Rutgers(Class of '76). -Bob

I know that alcohol in general is a GI irritant, but I too, like to enjoy a glass of wine every once in a while. I try to be really careful about what I eat (even more so) if I know I am going to drink anything. The thing about wine is that it has sulfites in it, which are preservatives and are in the same category as MSG and artificial sweeteners. I personally do not do too well with preservatives, so wine is generally worse for me--sad because I like wine so much--than other drinks. Also, alcohol content makes a difference. Even though I like to think of myself as a wine connoisseur, I have started drinking Mike's hard lemonade--low alcohol content and no sulfites!
I would say that in your case, it may be something that you had with the wine that caused it, unless you were having more wine than usual. I think that red wine is supposed to be worse than white wine--doesn't red have higher alcohol content? Maybe triggers can surface after a while too and in conjunction with other factors. I know that certain things started bothering me more at different times in my life. Well, I hope this helps and that I didn't confuse you more!

I've had something similar happen lately. I used to drink wine coolers a lot at night and they never bothered me until recently. I've cut them out for a few weeks and when I tried one the other day it was ok.

I find that I tolerate white wine better than any other alcohol, which is good because I love it.
The only time I have a problem with it is the next day, and that's normally because I've drank a couple of bottles of the stuff
