I've been experiencing a new symptom for the past few days. It's likea big lump in my throat is preventing me from swallowing normally, or talking normally sometimes. In Googling this, I came up with Dysphagia and Globus Hystericus...defined as difficulting swalloing either for a real reason or for an anxiety type reason. Supposedly some drugs that are smooth muscle relaxants can cause this. Since I've been taking both Levbid and Bentyl, I'm guessing this is causing it. Or maybe it's all in my head? Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this? It's quite an uncomfortable sensation. I'm also drinking tons of peppermint tea, so maybe it's a reflux symptom?

I've experienced globus hystericus for a couple days at a time. I believe mine was due to anxiety or something because it did not prevent me from swallowing or eating. In fact, I noticed it less when I ate. If the sensation you have is worse when you swallow, or you have a hard time swallowing, I think it could be something physical rather than psychosomatic.

Hi Webwolf, Oh Yeah! The peppermint tea drinking is what's doing that to you. Peppermint is a much stronger smooth muscle relaxant than Levbid and Bentyl put together, especially if you're drinking *tons* of it. By the way, Dyshagia, is when you actually get food or drink dropping into the lungs. My roomate back when I was in the hospital last November had that. -Bob
