I'm new to this (IBS and messaging) but would like to hear from someone who has had some experience with probiotics. I am newly diagnosed and have gone through the battery of doctors, tests, etc and am pretty frustrated. Have been on Heather's diet for a couple of weeks and haven't had much relief from pain, bloating and d....I've been reading various versions of the same story and know that I'm just getting started on this rocky road.
Lot of contradictory things written about probiotics, I don't know if I'm helping or hurting the cause. And I really don't want to do anything to hurt the cause!
thanks, SC

A good probiotic can be very beneficial for people with IBS although there may be a few people where it does not help them. It normally takes about 3 months of using probiotics to notice a difference.

Probiotics can help with general health as well as bloating & gas -- and getting those little bugs back in balance down there. I have noticed less gas & bloating as well as less illnesses and shorter duration when I do get sick since I started taking mine.

I take a really convenient one with a mix of little buggers in it instead of just one. Mine doesn't have to be in the fridge and it is protected against my tummy acids. This is important for anyone -- but especially for me as I have had to be on meds for GERD in the past. (and I still can't handle tomato sauces and peppermint caps - etc.)

It took about 3 weeks for me to notice a difference -- but it came on gradually -- and then I was sort of like -- you know -- I am not really having all that gas anymore! Then as my w hole family was getting sick -- I realized I didn't. When I did get sick one time - I was only sick for two days -- whereas they were sick for 5. I also was just a little bit "yucky" -- whereas they were totally down for at least two of those days. I think it has really helped me to boost my immune system as well. It was an unexpected bonus.

I'm surprised you've been on Heather's diet for two weeks and haven't had any relief from pain or D (bloating is another story). Have you tried the Break The Cycle diet for a couple of days to see if that helps?
