Is alcohol anyone elses biggest trigger? I barely ever drink but if I have more than two beverages, I almost end up in the emergency room due to the amount of pain that it causes me. Just curious.

If you do a search, you'll find a LOT about alcohol. Look for "Jack Daniels." I'm afraid I'm guilty of establishing a bad reputation.

I'm stable now, but even before I got stable, I had a little Jack on occasion. There are some tricks to it, though:

1. Limit your portion to only ONE drink.
2. Have a SF before the drink and AFTER.
3. Try some plain water in between sips of the Jack.
4. Don't mix your good booze with any kind of sweet soda; it'll make you sick.

The booze relaxes the nerve endings in the colon, so when I'm slightly cramped up, the Jack helps me 100%. However, I stick to those rules above, because if I have more than one drink, it cancels out all the benefits.

Now, having said all that, if you discovered that alcohol is a trigger for you, then by all means, AVOID IT! It's just so not worth it (not even Jack!).

Tbh, I can do without it I just wondered if it could be an even bigger trigger than stress or food.

for some people, yeah, it is a huge trigger. once you're stable, though, you might be able to handle some. i think the consensus is that the lighter/clearer the alcohol, the better. vodka and white wine seem to be the best tolerated. sweet liqueurs and beer seem to be the worst. and all of bev's guidelines, about portions, SF, water, and taking it slow, are exactly right, and i swear by them.

When I am stable I can sometimes handle a couple beers but by far Beer is probably the hardest thing for me to handle and probably is for most people.
