OK, I have read all the books and I know alcohol is bad for IBS. But for some reason, when I have a couple of drinks I never have an attack...even when I eat badly. My husband thinks that it is because it helps me to relax. Could this be true, or am I just getting lucky.

If your attacks are often anxiety linked then this could well be true. I tend not to suffer too much from a glass of beer or half a glass of wine. Tolerance levels are very much a personal thing.

I suffer from Fizzy drinks. so beer is a big no no - as yeast is known to irritate all guts.
Still drinks, such as spirits, can still play up. If your not being affected... why stop?

I can handle a couple drinks but nothing carbonated (which is true, alcoholic or not). Maybe we're just lucky! My husband says it's because it helps me unwind, too.

Like trigger foods, I find that alcohol does cramp my stomach up if I drink it on an empty stomach. As long as I have something in my stomach (or drink it after a meal), I'm usually ok. Even if it's just crackers or a piece of bread, that's enough to help.

I find that sometimes a glass of wine helps with my C too. But only a glass - anything else causes an attack.

I agree with everyone else. Some can tolerate and some can't and some can handle some drinks better than others.

I'm also fine with wine and a glass or two does seem to help relaxe me which helps with the C.
