Hi everyone. I was wondering if you could take a look at this tea I saw in the HFS and tell me if you think it's safe. If you click on the "ingredients" link it will give you more info. Traditional Med. Teas
I thought since my gallbladder isn't functioning so well, this might help release the bile...but I don't want to take it if it's not safe!
Thanks, as always!

Hi Beth
I don't see any reason why this wouldn't be safe - actually I'd imagine it would help you quite a bit! It says specifically that it doesn't contain any laxative ingredients... Was there a particular ingredient that jumped out at you as "iffy"?

Well, the fruitiness scared me as fruit isn't suppose to be eaten on an empty tummy. And I thought I had read something bad about star anise. And particulary this quote Quote:
Kukicha is much lower in caffeine than tea leaves and buds because it is comprised of mainly twigs and stems.
Makes it sound like it does contain caffeine?
And finally...I often think of the word "cleanse" as synonomous with "Detox"...so I wasn't sure about that one either. I just want to do no further harm! But I thought this might help me with the gallbladder not working.
Thanks for your response!!! I appreciate it, Laurel!

It says to avoid use if you have D -- so if you have IBS-D -- I would avoid it.

But I'm not D anyhow....far from it. Where did you see it could cause D? It says it doesn't cause harsh laxatives, so I thought it might be okay to take daily, like the name says!

Look under the "cautions" -- it says not to take if you get D --- so that sends off some warning bells. It probably is designed in some way that may cause "loosening of the stools" for the sake of cleansing. For IBS folks -- particularly D -- that would be dangerous. Just because it doesn't contain harsh laxatives doesn't mean it doesn't contain *any* laxatives... and so that's why they may have to warn away those with D.
I have gotten D (and even constipation) from products that claimed they were safe to take every day. If you really think you may need it, you may have to try this out and see how it effects you. I stay away from anything that says "cleanse" or "detox" because prior experience and that of others just tells me it hurts too bad. Then again -- I'm IBS-D/A .

I'm sort of confused about the whole things.
I posted to you about silica in another place...just wondering if you were still taking it, if it was helping, if was okay on your tummy...
I don't know what to do about this tea. I'm IBS-C so, like you said, I might just have to try it. I just want to make sure there is nothing in it that would cause problems (senna, aloe...which it doesn't).

I am not (taking the silica). It didn't seem to be helping - and I noticed more gas than usual. I wasn't sure if the silica was to blame - but I eliminated it and the extra gas went away. I must have been sensitive to it somehow. Gas is one of those things that has been an issue of mine. It's the first symptom of my IBS to come back. I'm stable and not having problems otherwise. I go by the diet (other than the occasional cheat), take my fiber, probiotic & enzymes... and I am a pretty happy girl. There are some things I just have to avoid (dairy).
Anything else I can help with?

-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Well I'm not sure... it might be one of those try it and see things. The word detox always makes me wary I must say as it implies a cleaning out with some sort of stimulant which isn't good for IBS. Most HFS have a visiting naturopath and maybe they would explain more about the ingredients.
Having said that I guess the only way to know for sure would be to try it and see how you go.
If you do try it, I'd start with a small amount with a meal or SF snack rather than on an empty stomach.
Let us know how you go with it. Kerrie

But it says it is safe for everyday use because there are no harsh laxatives. But this product is also made by the people who make Smooth Move (senna) which is not safe, even though it is natural.
I've has this tea about 5 nights, and each morning I had a good BM..and none of the constant little, messy, incomplete BMS all day long. I feel better taking it...but that doesn't mean it's safe. I love the effects so far though...just wish I knew for certainty that it is safe.

I looked up the ingredients to read about drug interactions. There haven't been many studies done on some of these herbs but some have been used for many years. HTH!
schisandra fruit - has been used to treat IBS but information/studies have been contradictory; do not take with acetaminophen
lycium - don't take with Warfarin; caffeine free
gynostemma - don't take if pregnant; caffeine free
kukicha - tea made from twigs from same plant green tea and black tea come from; very low in caffeine so it probably won't be a problem
The rest of the ingredients are pretty common and safe:
licorice
ginger
star anise

Hi Maria, not sure what your subject line means though.
Thanks for taking the time to look all that up for me. I'm not pregnant, or breast feeding or taking acetaminophen or Warfarin.
I didn't realize it had some caffeine in it though.
So, you think this is okay to take? In your opinion?

Whoops! I meant "safe" not "same"! (Okay, edited now!)In my opinion, I think it would be okay to take. You've been taking it for almost a week, right and not having any negative reactions to it?
I didn't find anything saying you would become dependent on it and I think the caffeine it contains is very, very low.
I went to this site to check some of the herbs: LifeSource HealthNotes , which also provides research information and resources.

If you've been taking it for almost a week with no negative reaction then I'd say it's fine. Your body always lets you know if something isn't!
In fact it sounds like you've had a +ve response so I'd say that's good.

I'm not sure if it's the tea or the Miralax or the Stevia Plus that Rachel sent me. I just hope it continues, though. No luck today. I am scared I jinxed myself!
I hate being reliant on drugs and teas to go though. I pray they are safe and I am not doing more harm than good for the long term.
I don't understand how you can keep "going" without an SFS or Miralax or much IF. But good for you! I remember some of your earlier posts when you weren't going at all...and not even Acacia or Miralax helped you.
