During colonoscopy procedure - hurt?

I've never had a colonoscopy, only the barium x-ray and sigmoidoscopy, and my GI wants me to have a colonoscopy done now. I am soooo scared about it because I had a really, really hard time with the x-ray & sigmoidoscopy. The cramping during the procedure was painful to me.

Can anyone tell me their experiences with the colonoscopy and if they cramped up during it or afterwards. The unknown always freaks me out.

Thanks!

A lot of air released afterward...very embarrassing...but not painful. Good drugs.

Hi Rox, The prep isn't fun, but the actual procedure itself
isn't bad at all. You will be sedated, and you won't even
know that you've had the procedure when you wakeup. -Bob

Did you get anesthia or just a vicoden (I think that's what they give?)? I asked the doc to give me anesthia because I don't want to be awake. He said he usually gives something so make the patient drowsy but that you can watch on the monitor what is going on. And that there is a little cramping. I don't want to feel anything so I asked for anesthia.

Do you guys think anesthia is not neccessary? I want to get it over and done with but if I get anesthia then I need to wait a month for the anesthiologist.

Any feedbask?

Unlike some exams, you will probably be heavily sedated for the colonoscopy. I didn't remember anything when I had mine done.
